Meet the Gardener
My name is Carrie. I live in the city. I love my city.
I enjoy soil under my fingernails, tomatoes warm from the vine, and looking at plants up close.
I like learning odd things like, “What’s the best way to propagate Jade plants?” I swear if I could do it all over, I’d probably go the horticulture route, but then again – I am who I am due to where I’ve been. I wouldn’t be who I am if I didn’t, and in my old age of 26, I’m learning to get quite comfortable in my own skin.
I also like to travel to places where I can’t pronounce food on the menu. I’ve been to many corners of our fine globe. I love South East Asia. And Central America. My husband is a Kiwi, so I guess I have to love New Zealand too. (As if that’s difficult…)
I own & manage an award-winning dog walking service. I love monsters. (Miraculously, I happen to parent two of the best monsters to have ever walked this fine earth.) Owning a business is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. It’s not without it’s cons (working ridiculously long hours during our start-up years), but it’s something that has given me confidence & poise.
I’m an NPR/PBS nerd.
About me. About me. Hmm.
I’ve been told I’m a music snob, and it’s true I am. I’m proud to be a music snob. I know what I like. And I love what I like. I dislike DJ’s who can’t mix, pretty much anything on FM that’s not NPR, and mainstream hip-hop. (How did we digress?) I love dancing under disco balls. I’m not a young wipper snapper anymore, but I still loves me techno.
I like riding my bike around the city and educating cars that bikes are considered vehicles and should be treated as such. (Stop with the honking already.)
I try to do yoga regularly and dream of touching my nose to my knees. I like to laugh at myself during yoga, because let’s face it – yoga is down right hilarious. I think our main problem in society is that people are taking life too seriously, or not seriously enough. Where am I going with that? I don’t know. I like to laugh, even during yoga.
More about Carrie. I enjoy thinking positively about the future. I think a better way is possible. I don’t believe humanity is doomed. I care deeply about our earth and our intrinsic connection to it.
I dig organic, urban gardening.

I ‘ve tried three yoga classes. Two were sort of speed-yoga – showing off. The other was great. Relaxed, friendly, humourous – and I miss it.
I have epilepsy. The teacher at one of the Yoga groups I didn’t like stuck me at the back. For part of the time, she ignored me; didn’t like to meet my eyes. For part of the time she told me not to do things but to watch.
It was at a Buddhist centre.
Later, I commented to someone who was a regular there how odd I found it that Buddhists should be so ‘up-tight’. She said that was the point – it was because they were up-tight that they wanted to be Buddhists – so they could learn to be calm.!

P.S. I found you through Blotanical
What in this world is a monster? You crack me up and I am a fan of yours because of your funny and entertaining attitude. I just hope I can get up tomorrow and touch my knees with my hands.
Hello Carrie -
I want to introduce myself…..My name is Ben Fairfield and I am one of the founders of The Urban Garden Project™. The Urban Garden Project™ is the initiative to encourage Americans to learn from history, become more self-reliant, save a significant amount of money, and eat healthier, all as a result of planting their own urban garden! The goal of The Urban Garden Project™ is to encourage and catalog the creation of 100,000 urban gardens by 2020. We know that this is a sizeable goal, but we will accomplish it 1 garden at a time!
As a result of your successful blog and your obvious passion for gardening I was hoping that you would visit our website at http://www.urbangardenproject.wordpress.com to learn more about the project. It costs nothing to support the project; we simply need help getting the word out to the world so that we can begin to catalog existing or new urban gardens. It would also be great to be able to add you to our garden catalog and link to your site through our blogroll! The official kick off for the project is April 1st 2009 and we are busy creating videos, tutorials, product reviews and more to make visiting worth everyone’s time!
I am hoping that as a result of our shared passion for gardening you can help us in spreading the word about The Urban Garden Project™. Again, your support costs nothing. Our mission is pure and we hope that you can come along side us in this project to grow the gardening community and the number of urban gardens!
Thank you so much for your time and we are looking forward to you visiting our site and letting us add your garden to our growing catalog of gardens from across the world!
Have a great day!
Ben Fairfield
